STREETSCAPE

Visitors of Madurodam feel like to walk around in a real town . It is not just a collection of miniature houses, there is also something happening in the streets and squares of Madurodam. There are scenes that can occur anywhere in the Netherlands. This is done through the 'figuration: the collective name for all dolls, cars, bike racks, dogs, etc..
 
Design
The staff of the Design department should often consider limiting circumstances. So it is almost impossible to completely fill a football stadium with dolls (about 20,000 places!). Because off the exact location of the configuration to some 6000 figures gives the suggestion that the game is sold out.
 
Madurodam are many scenes that illustrates the time of the year. Once autumn arrives, the residents are decorated with umbrellas outside. In winter there is an ice rink. Around Christmas, there are miniature Christmas tree sales and a Christmas market. As the Dutch team plays a major tournament, the miniature city turns into an orange madness. And if it freezes for longer than two weeks, the organization of Madurodam Elfstedentocht is already in operation.
 
Shaping
Special configuration is entirely handmade. The puppets are made from resin. Thereafter they provide clothing that consists of thin layers of plastic clay. 

 
Painting
The dolls are all hand painted. They are also regularly re-painted in fashion colors. Painting dolls done in four phases, each 24 hours to dry to prevent the colors blend.

If the configuration is done, employees place them in the miniature city.
