Nature plays an important role in Madurodam. In a truly green city can not be missing. The ditches, trees and grasslands are the daily care of the employees of Madurodam. For the miniature trees are including Privet, Tamarix, Prunus, Linde and Snowball widely used.
 
Prune
The plants in the miniature city are kept small by pruning. There are trees without pruning 20 to 30 feet high would be. Madurodam in them after years up to about 80 inches high and look with their thick trunk 'to scale' really grown out. These trees are about six to ten times a year pruned.

Different kinds of trees bloom in summer and some bear fruit even in autumn.
 
Hedges
The hedges of boxwood and yews are planted in very small plant material (rooted cuttings) and then they are very regularly pruned during the growing season. Any tip that pops up, is removed.
 

Arboretum
Madurodam has also an arboretum. The mini-arboretum in Madurodam has been built according to the English landscape style. You can see which trees, hedges and perennials used in Madurodam. As in the real example in Trompenburg Arboretum in Rotterdam, the Latin names are listed.
